Pigmentation, how can I remove it?

A few months ago we celebrated the fifth anniversary of Dafna’s Personal Skincare and if I look back I realize that one of the questions that you have asked me more times since I founded the brand is how to combat pigmentation on the skin.

Imagine your skin as a lake where you can see the water in different shades of blue. From a deep blue to a light blue, to transparent … Now imagine that this blue is melanin on your skin …

The spots appear when there is an accumulated increase of melanin. To treat them, it´s necessary to treat the skin at the deepest levels, reducing the accumulation of melanocytes, until they become transparent.

Excessive sun exposure during the summer months works like an explosive cocktail if your skin tends to blemish. The arrival of autumn is the best time to start treating them. I want to share wit you a small guide that I hope you find useful and at the end I give you a little surprise …

Types of pigmentation and their causes

Irregular skin pigmentation or hyperpigmentation appears for different reasons, there is no single cause. These are the most common types:

– Solar lentigines: over the years we observe pigmentation on the face, hands, décolleté … These are usually small spots that are due to accumulated sun damage on the skin.

– Melasma: this type of hyperpigmentation affects larger areas, mainly on the face. It is related to hormonal levels and is very common during pregnancy and postpartum. Women who take oral contraceptives can also get it.

– Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: when we have a skin lesion, many times when it heals it leaves us a darker stain. For example, it happens very commonly in acne faces so it is good not to handle the pimples and heal them correctly. It can also be seen after surgeries in which we have scars.

How can I avoid pigmentation?

The most important measure you should take is ALWAYS use sun protection. In this way, you should protect the skin against UVA and UVB rays and prevent premature photoaging.

Do not focus on eliminating that specific stain but on unifying the tone, taking care of the skin in a global way and making it look cared for and radiant. I assure you that a well cared for, clean and luminous skin will make the small spots on your skin go unnoticed while you make them disappear.
